01 — Uzbekistan MBBS Overview

Medical Education in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan has a growing international medical-education sector, with public and private medical schools appearing in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS). Several current WDOMS records show six-year medicine/general-medicine programmes and admission of foreign students.

For Indian students, the decision should be based on the exact university + exact programme + language of instruction + clinical training + internship arrangement + current accreditation/recognition + NMC requirements, not on country-level claims alone.

02 • Why Study

Why Consider MBBS in Uzbekistan?

International Options

Uzbekistan hosts medical institutions with international-student pathways and programmes recorded in WDOMS.

English-Medium Options

Some current WDOMS records show English among programme languages. Verify the exact programme and all clinical years before enrolment.

Regional Advantage

Central Asian location, established medical universities and a developing international-student ecosystem can make Uzbekistan an option worth evaluating.

03 • NMC Eligibility

NMC Eligibility for Indian Students

Indian students must assess the foreign medical programme against the applicable National Medical Commission framework. The current NMC framework includes the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021 (FMGL), and related clarifications.

Key checks

  • Eligibility to enter medical education in India/foreign medical education under applicable rules.
  • Recognised/approved medical institution and medical qualification in the country of study.
  • Course duration and structure must satisfy applicable NMC requirements.
  • English as the medium of instruction is a key FMGL requirement.
  • Clinical/practical training must meet applicable requirements.

Do not rely on “NMC approved” marketing

NMC does not provide a simple country-wide blanket approval for all universities. AR-MAC’S recommends checking the exact university and programme against the rules applicable to the student’s admission year.

04 — NEET Requirement

NEET Requirement

Indian citizens/OCI candidates seeking to study medicine abroad should satisfy the NEET requirement applicable to their admission year. NEET qualification is an Indian eligibility requirement; it does not itself certify that a particular foreign medical programme satisfies all FMGL conditions.

AR-MAC’S rule: Before application, verify NEET status, category, eligibility and the current NMC framework applicable to the student.

05 — NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Regulations

Foreign Medical Graduate Regulations

Duration

The NMC FAQ states a minimum foreign medical course duration of 54 months for the applicable FMGL framework.

Internship

The NMC FAQ specifies a minimum 12-month internship in the same foreign medical institution for the applicable requirement.

Indian Internship

For cohorts covered by current CRMI requirements, post-FMGE compulsory rotating medical internship requirements in India may apply.

Important: Regulations and interpretations can change. This page is an educational planning guide, not legal or regulatory certification.

06 • WDOMS / WFME / Uzbekistan Accreditation

Recognition, WDOMS & Accreditation

WDOMS is useful for verifying whether a medical school and programme are listed, but WDOMS itself states that listing does not mean recognition, accreditation or endorsement.

WFME also states that it does not directly accredit individual medical schools; it recognises accrediting agencies. Therefore, accreditation must be checked at the correct agency + university + programme + validity period level.

Examples of current WDOMS records

  • Tashkent State Medical University — Physician (General Medicine), 6 years; Uzbek/Russian/English; foreign students admitted.
  • Medical Institute of Karakalpakstan — 6 years; Uzbek/Russian/English; current WDOMS record notes ECAQA accreditation reported in 2025.
  • Andizhan State Medical Institute — General Medicine, 6 years; Uzbek/Russian/English; foreign students admitted.
  • Central Asian Medical University — General Medicine, 6 years; Uzbek/Russian/English; foreign students admitted.

Verification warning

Accreditation status, programme names, teaching language and international-student eligibility can change. Always obtain the current official accreditation/authorisation document before paying fees.

10 • University-wise Tuition Fees

Tuition Fees — Verify Before Payment

2027–28 tuition is not safely represented as a fixed country-wide amount. Published fees differ by university, programme, year, exchange rate and student category.

Never compare only tuition. Compare tuition + hostel + food + visa/registration + insurance + travel + local transport + clinical/internship costs + currency risk.

11 — 6-Year Total Cost

Build a Realistic 6-Year Budget

Academic

6 × annual tuition, plus university registration and other mandatory institutional charges.

Living

Hostel/private accommodation, food, local transport, utilities, books and personal expenses.

International

Visa/registration, insurance, flights, document/legalisation costs and emergency reserve.

AR-MAC’S Budget Formula: 6-year tuition + 6-year living + visa/insurance + travel + academic extras + contingency = estimated total. Recalculate annually using the actual university invoice and exchange rate.

12 — Hostel & Food Costs

Accommodation & Food

Hostel charges are university-specific and can vary by room type, campus and availability. Food costs depend heavily on whether the student uses a university canteen, self-catering or private options.

Hostel

Confirm annual fee, room occupancy, deposit, utilities, rules and availability in writing.

Food

Budget for a monthly food allowance rather than relying on a single package price.

Transport

Include city transport and periodic travel to campus/hospital facilities.

13 • Visa & TRC

Visa, Registration & Residence

International students must follow Uzbekistan’s immigration rules and the university’s procedures for student registration/residence documentation. Exact visa category, invitation, registration and residence arrangements should be confirmed with the university and competent authorities for the student’s nationality.

University Due-Diligence Matrix

Before committing funds, evaluate the institution, programme and clinical pathway against the student’s long-term objectives.

01

Receive the official admission/confirmation documentation from the university.

02

Complete the applicable visa/invitation process if required for your nationality.

03

Travel with original passport and required supporting documents.

04

Complete arrival registration and university formalities within the required timeframe.

05

Maintain valid immigration/student documents throughout the course.

14 • Required Documents

Document Checklist

Academic

  • 10th certificate/marksheet
  • 12th certificate/marksheet
  • Birth certificate where required
  • NEET evidence for Indian applicants

Identity

  • Passport
  • Passport-size photographs
  • Application forms
  • Medical/insurance documents as required

Legal / Travel

  • Attested/legalised documents where required
  • Admission/offer letter
  • Fee payment evidence
  • Visa/immigration documents

Document Review

Academic and identity documents verified before submission.

Application

Submit to the selected university through the applicable official channel.

Offer / Admission

Review the official contract, fee schedule and refund terms.

Visa & Travel

Complete immigration formalities and accommodation planning.

Arrival & Registration

16 — Curriculum / Syllabus

Curriculum Structure

Medicine programmes generally progress from foundational sciences into pre-clinical and clinical disciplines. Exact sequencing differs by university.

Foundational

Anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, histology, microbiology and related basic sciences.

Pre-Clinical

Pathology, pharmacology, immunology, medical genetics and introductory clinical disciplines.

Clinical

Internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics & gynaecology, psychiatry, emergency and other rotations.

Request the official year-by-year curriculum, contact hours, ECTS/credits, clinical rotation schedule and internship structure before enrolment.

17 — Clinical Training

Clinical Training & Hospital Exposure

Clinical exposure is one of the most important checks for an Indian student. Confirm the teaching hospitals, departments, patient exposure, clinical hours, language used with patients, supervision and whether all required clinical components are delivered by the university.

Verify

  • University-affiliated teaching hospitals
  • Clinical years and rotation schedule
  • Patient-facing training
  • Attendance requirements
  • Clinical logbooks and assessment

Language Matters

Even where academic teaching is in English, local-language ability may be important for patient communication during clinical training. Ask the university how language training is integrated into the clinical years.

18 — Internship Requirements

Internship & Clinical Completion

Do not treat “6 years” as automatically sufficient. Obtain written confirmation of the internship/clinical structure, its location, duration, supervised patient care and whether the arrangement satisfies the NMC rules applicable to the student’s cohort.

Critical: For the applicable FMGL framework, the NMC FAQ states a minimum 12-month internship in the same foreign medical institution. Verify the exact implementation for your admission year and university.

19 • FMGE / NExT Pathway

After Graduation: FMGE / NExT Planning

Indian graduates returning from foreign medical education must follow the licensing pathway applicable at the time they seek registration. The NMC framework and future NExT implementation can affect the pathway.

During MBBS

Build strong fundamentals, clinical competence, documentation and disciplined study habits.

Before Graduation

Review current Indian licensing requirements and verify all university documents, transcripts, internship records and degree documentation.

After Graduation

Follow the examination, internship and registration requirements applicable to your cohort and current NMC rules.

21 — Scholarships

Scholarship Planning

Scholarship availability is university- and programme-specific. International medical students should ask for official scholarship policy, eligibility, continuation conditions, tuition waiver percentage, accommodation coverage and whether the award is available to Indian students.

22 • Education Loans

Education Loan Planning

Students may explore Indian bank and NBFC education loans subject to lender policy. Lenders commonly assess university/course recognition, collateral or co-applicant requirements, total cost and repayment terms.

Prepare

Admission letter, fee schedule, passport, academic records and financial documents.

Compare

Interest rate, processing fees, moratorium, collateral, insurance and disbursement rules.

Budget

Model the loan against the full six-year cost, not tuition alone.

23 — Accommodation

Accommodation Options

University Hostel

Usually the first option to investigate. Confirm room type, availability, facilities, security and fee.

Private Housing

Useful where hostel availability is limited. Confirm lease, registration and commute requirements.

Location

Prefer accommodation with practical access to teaching buildings and clinical hospitals.

24 • Safety & Student Life

Safety, Support & Student Life

Uzbekistan is a foreign environment for Indian students, so students should follow university safety guidance, local laws, immigration rules and current government travel advisories. Evaluate campus security, accommodation security, emergency contacts, healthcare access and student support before departure.

Student Life

Expect a mix of international students, local culture, university activities and city life. Student experience varies considerably by campus.

Emergency Planning

Keep university emergency numbers, embassy/consular contacts, insurance information and copies of important documents accessible.

25 — Climate

Climate & Seasonal Planning

Uzbekistan has a strongly continental climate: hot summers and cold winters, with substantial seasonal variation. Students should plan clothing, accommodation heating/cooling and travel around local conditions.

26 — Advantages & Disadvantages

A Balanced Decision

Potential Advantages

  • Six-year medicine programmes are listed by several WDOMS schools.
  • English-medium options are available at some institutions.
  • Growing international-student ecosystem.
  • Central Asian location and cultural exposure.
  • Multiple public/private institutions to compare.

Potential Challenges

  • Programme language can differ by university.
  • Clinical patient communication may require local-language skills.
  • Fees and policies change; verify every year.
  • Recognition must be checked at programme level.
  • Return-to-India licensing requirements must be planned from day one.

27 • Career After MBBS

Career Pathways

India

Follow the applicable foreign medical graduate examination/registration pathway.

Uzbekistan

Any practice pathway is subject to local licensing and professional registration rules.

Other Countries

Additional licensing exams and eligibility rules apply in each destination.

28 — PG Opportunities

Postgraduate Opportunities

Graduates can explore postgraduate training in India, Uzbekistan or other countries, subject to the destination’s licensing, eligibility and examination requirements.

Career principle: Choose the undergraduate programme first for its educational quality and regulatory fit — not solely for a future PG destination.
